JLR-21: a satellite compass installation
On the bridge, you need a clear source of direction of the bow of the vessel: its own indicator and coordinated data transmission to the rest of the equipment. JRC JLR-21 combines these roles in a satellite compass system. Heading and course over ground
Heading describes the orientation of the vessel’s longitudinal axis. COG describes the direction in which it moves over the ground. Current or wind can make these values differ. Clarify a request to “display the course” before selecting equipment: is vessel orientation, direction of movement, or both required, with clear labels?
JRC presents the JLR-21 as both a GPS compass and GPS navigator. It brings heading and navigational data together in one model without making them physically equivalent. Agree which values the operator needs on the display and which external instruments require. Buying a compass does not by itself determine which data field another device will use.
For the owner of a small vessel, this helps separate the functions of bridge equipment. Another device providing position data does not by itself identify a heading source. Conversely, selecting a satellite compass does not mean it replaces every function of a separate navigator or the entire existing navigation system. Define the required outputs first, then agree the equipment package.
The antenna part performs measurement
In a pamphlet. JRC for JLR-21 sensor NNN-21 display NWZ-4701. The processor is built into the antenna part; the antenna and the indicator are connected by a cable. This is a specific model architecture, and not a reason to add to the order an arbitrary separate processor unit from another compass.
The quotation requires precise designations of the main parts and suitable compounds. If the old cable, anchorage or indicator is retained on the ship, their applicability shall be considered separately. The coincidence of the JRC brand or the external similarity of the connector does not confirm interchangeability. For a new set, a photo of one antenna part cannot be considered a list of all equipment supplied.
Think of the location of the external sensor and the location of the readings as two related parts of the project. The specialist needs information about the vessel, the available space and the intended path of the cable. On this basis, coordinate the placement, accessories and work on the documentation of the selected configuration. This material does not specify the electrical connection circuitry or mounting dimensions.
The indicator helps to understand the data
For the NWZ-4701, the brochure specifies a 5.7-inch display with compass-rose, heading, navigation, ROT and GPS-status modes. Adjustable brightness and illuminated keys matter when considering display placement on the bridge. The selected position should allow labels and numbers to be read under normal operating conditions.
ROT mode refers to the speed at which a vessel changes direction. It is not the speed of movement relative to the ground. Therefore, a set of screens is better viewed through the information that is really needed at the workplace, rather than as a list of interchangeable names. Clarification of appointments and documentation shall be included in the agreed preparation of equipment.
For the direction of JLR-21, the manufacturer specifies 0.5° rms; the display resolution is 0.1°. The step of the number on the screen should not be impersonated for the accuracy of the measurement. The parameters of another JLR-31 compass cannot be transferred to JLR-21 from the general brochure. The required configuration and the applicability of its characteristics are fixed for a particular order.
External data and power supply systems
The JRC describes five destination and navigation data output ports with IEC 61162/NSK formats. Possible messages, speed combinations, and intervals depend on the version and modes selected. This allows you to discuss the development of the post, but does not promise the ready connection of five devices at the same time.
For quotation, it is enough to name the equipment that should receive the data and its purpose. The exact outputs, connecting means, the necessary intermediate devices and the work involved are determined separately. Power supply 12-24 DC is listed. Available source, feeding part, protection and accessories are all part of the discussion of the whole. If a network source or other additional equipment is needed, it should not be considered automatically included in the price of the listing item. Installation and configuration work should also be visible in the quotation.

JRC includes JLR-21 in the list. Therefore, the archival brochure describes the capabilities of the model, but does not prove its current serial release.
