Buying "Crystal-40VP" for a river or reservoir means choosing not only a device with a digital indication. Before installation, it is necessary to decide what depth the boatmaster reads: the distance from the converter to the bottom or the depth from the water surface. Stock under the keel is obtained only after taking into account the geometry of the ship. This is especially important where the draught changes after loading, receiving stocks or disembarking passengers.
Where does the measurement begin?
According to the leadership of "Crystal-40VP" is designed for inland water bodies. Acoustic measurement begins at the piezo transducer. The document provides for the introduction of a positive amendment for its deepening: the result of the measurement is summed up with this value. Therefore, the same number on the panel without knowing the setting does not tell where the zero mark is.
The entrenchment is not an automatic measurement of current sludge. If the device is adjusted at one position of the waterline, and then the vessel is loaded, the position of the transducer relative to the surface changes. Applicable guidance and ship control procedures must be followed; the universal meaning of the amendment for all voyages is not appropriate here.
Example: Ship before and after loading
Let us consider only arithmetic on conditional numbers. The depth from the surface to the bottom is 4.30 m. Before loading, the converter is submerged by 0.70 m, the draft of the vessel is 1.20 m. The distance from the converter to the bottom is 3.60 m. After adding the correct correction, the device shows 4.30 m; the geometric reserve under the keel is 4.30 - 1.20 = 3.10 m.
Let’s say that after loading, the draught increased to 1.45 m, and the depth of the converter – to 0.95 m. At the same depth of water, the distance from the converter to the bottom is now 3.35 m. If you leave the previous correction of 0.70 m, you get a reading of 4.05 m instead of 4.30 m. This clearly shows why you need to know the setting and meaning of the countdown, rather than guessing from the numbers.

This is a calculated example, not an allowable margin for movement. The required operating reserve is determined for a particular vessel and conditions. Pumping, different, movement and other factors do not disappear from the task because there are two decimal places on the display.
The alarm does not prescribe a safe precipitation.
The manual describes light and sound alarms at a depth less than the specified control. The threshold is compared with the countdown that is actually used. If the watch considers the threshold as a reserve under the keel, and the device shows the depth corrected to the surface, an error occurs in the very formulation of the problem. The alarm should not be taken as an automatic calculation of the permissible passage.
The sonar measures the depth at the place of operation of the transducer; its reading cannot be turned into a promise to see the profile of the bottom in front of the nose in advance. For the buyer, this means that the device is chosen for the real task of measuring depth, installation conditions and the prescribed order of use, rather than waiting for the functions of another class of equipment.
What set to discuss
In the River Marine Pro card, the Crystal-40VP is presented with a converter, a cable of 20 m and the specified documents. The cable track is compared to the position of the post and the sensor; the photograph of the set does not confirm the arbitrary possibility of elongation. For quotation, the position of the converter, the range of precipitation and the accepted meaning of the reading are required. An existing sensor is not declared compatible only with a similar connector.

Nope. If this is the depth from the surface, the current precipitation must be taken into account for the geometric reserve. The operating reserve and the allowability of movement are determined separately.
Can these numbers be used as an alarm setting?
No, numbers only show the arithmetic of a conventional example. The threshold is selected according to the actual configuration, countdown and requirements of the vessel operation.
